Global Connect
The Global Connect track explores the process of increased interconnectedness among countries and innovation capital from and to the US, India, Israel and the Middle East, Japan, Latin America, and Europe. We explore investments in these regions across sectors and observe the fueling of entrepreneurship and the bustling growth in their economies. Speakers on this track are truly diverse and global from many of these countries.
This track covers The Gateway to The G20 and The World, The Gateway to Canada and The World, The Gateway to Global Teams and The World and The Gateway to Entrepreneurship and The World.
According to CB Insights, Global Venture funding fell 35% to $415.1 billion, and deal volume fell 4% to 36, 177 deals in 2022. The global unicorn count hit 1,205 in 2022. Early stage deals dominate at 62% deal share. Fintech startups raised $75.2 billion (5,048 deals) in funding in 2022. The two other leading sectors of funding are retail tech at $52.9 billion (3,614 deals) and global digital health at $25.9billion. (2,122 deals)
Annual US venture funding was $198.4 billion down 37% from 2021, accounting for half the global total. The US also saw a record high for yearly deals at 12,281. Early-stage deals were a key driver, accounting for 57% of total deals in 2022. Silicon Valley is still by far the tech capital of the US. Startups here raised $63.9 billion (2,571 deals), New York took the second spot at $28.8 billion (1,826 deals) in funding, and Boston took $17.38 billion (1,826 deals).
All geographic regions saw record funding, signaling the globalization of innovation capital. Asia is one of the top regions outside the US, for global deals in 2022 at $111.4 billion (13,610 deals), China was $46.6 billion (6,774 deals), Europe at $81.0 billion (7,564deals), India $20.7 billion (1,714 deals), Latin America $7.9 billion (1,019 deals), UK $26 billion (2,082 deals), Canada at $8.9 billion (726 deals), and Israel at $8.8 billion (474 deals).
